Chicken Biryani Recipe (South Indian)

Ingredients : 

  • 400g Chicken
  • 1.5 cups rice (500g)
  • 3 cups of water (1 litre)
  • One lemon
  • One tomato
  • One onion
  • Cashew nuts
  • Curry leaves
  • Bay leaves
  • Star anise, Clove, Cardamom
  • Two tablespoons yoghurt
  • One teaspoon garam masala, one teaspoon chilli powder, half spoon turmeric
  • Mint leaves, coriander, three green chillies, ginger and garlic (all for paste)
  • Salt
  • Oil

Method :

Firstly soak rice and leave it. In a grinder make a paste using mint leaves, coriander, three green chillies, ginger and garlic, salt and water and set aside. Also you can make lemon juice from the lemon and leave it until ready to use.

In a pressure cooker heat some oil and add curry leaves, bay leaves, cloves, star anise, and cardamom. Next add cashew nuts and onion and cook until they are golden brown and fragrant.

Once browned add tomato and the green chutney you made at the beginning. Add the chicken and mix well.

Add garam masala, chilli powder and turmeric powder and mix well. Add yoghurt and rice and mix again.

Finally add 3 cups of water (1 cup rice : 2 cups of water). Also add the lemon juice. Close and cook for 15 miutes.

Serve hot with egg and raita. 😋
